What is Grey Listing Print

We at IDS take the prevention of SPAM very seriously.

There are a number of ways we have configured our servers to keep SPAM at bay.

The issue is to make sure SPAM is stopped and the good stuff is allowed through, a process that is getting tougher as SPAMMERS keep upping there game.

Another way to stop SPAM is GREY LISTING, and we have hesitated to activate this measure as it can be a bit of a bother to manage or understand.

An email is sent to you, our server tests if it is set up with SPF, see the definition of SPF, if not the email is refused.
But if the email sent to you is from a non SPAM/ legitimate network it will resend the email and when it resends it within a specified time we will no longer refuse it and deliver it to your account.

When SPAM is blasted out, it is never resents if delivery fails, in this way SPAM is reduced considerably to your account.

The downside is, if you are waiting for an email from a none SFP account, it might take longer to be delivered.

So you can go to your cPanel account and enable/disable grey listing for your account.

Definition of SPF:

An SPF record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain. The purpose of an SPF record is to prevent spammers from sending messages with forged From addresses at your domain.
