There has been an increase in incidence of bulk emailing from the IDS servers, and we wish to advise on how bulk emailing should be approached.

- Each account is entitled to send out a maximum of 500 non SPAM emails/hour.

- Should you have 1000 emails to send for example, and click send it will send 500 and the rest will not be sent.

- The 500 not sent will still be in the emailing system and therefore places a large burden on the shared servers resources.

- All low volume bulk emails sent out must have a double opt out/unsubscribe facility.

- Email headers are automatically monitored at server level. Should there be enough suspicion that the emails are SPAM, IDS is contacted and warned.

- With a re-occurence, the relevant account will be suspended at server security level.

- IDS does not encourage bulk emailing as shared servers are not conducive for this. You are therefore encouraged to subscribe to dedicted bulk email servers for this facility.

- A solution to low volume bulk emailing is to obtain bulk emailing software that can throttle email sending to say 1 email every 10seconds which will not exceed the sending rate and reduce server resources. There are many such software packages on the market, do a search for 'bulk emailing software'.

- IDS does offer a free bulk emailing package under the icon Fantastico in your control panel called PHP List, although this is quite a complex package and not easy to customise/brand.

We hope the above helps you to make an informed decision on bulk emailing.
